Insulin Injection Technique

- Shake intermediate insulin by gently rolling between palms before use
|
|
|
- Inject Air in Insulin Syringe equal to desired dose to be taken
|
|
|
- Then inject air into the vial
|
|
|
- Turn the bottle upside down. Pull back the plunger until you have measured your
correct dose
|
|
|
- First pinch up a generous portion of your skin before injecting insulin and hold
injection in your hand like pen
|
|
Sites of insulin injection
- Abdomen (fastest absorption)
- Thighs
- Arms
- Buttocks
|
|
Rotation
Always keep rotating insulin site even in one area.
Is there any need to use Alcohol Swab?
- Insulin acts as an Antiseptic
- No need for alcohol swab just use soap and water
How long can insulin syringe be used?
It is quite safe to use same syringe to the same patient for 2-3 days or until it
loses it sharpness that is it becomes painful to inject.
Administration in children and lean & thin people
In lean and thin persons pinch up a generous amount of skin, use with a slight angle
(45) as advised by the Diabetic Team
